About Michele
Michele M. Soderman was born in Northern Lower Michigan in 1946. After raising 5 children she studied Ceramics at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts and Jackson Community College in Mississippi. Michele also attended over 40 Seminars and workshops with world class potters including Paul Soldner, Cynthia Bringle, Byron Temple,
Delores Lewis and Steven Hill.
She is experienced in a variety of kiln firing including cone 1O gas, raku, pit firing, and mainly fires to 2245 degrees in an electric kiln. Michele has set up five Studios while traveling and living in Michigan, Mississippi, South Dakota, California, and Warrenton and Jeffersonton, Virginia.
Most of her pottery is functional and the glazes are both food and dishwasher safe. Some of the glazes she uses are purchased while others she makes herself. Her work includes functional pottery and expands to sculpture with an emphasis on the female form. Fish, turtles, leaves, and spirals are also evident in her work.
